Jackie Olson

Born and raised in Dawson City, a citizen of Tr’ondek Hwech’in.  Graduated Alberta College of Art in 1992, being creating artwork for over 30 years.  A mixed media artist primarily based in abstract acrylic paintings.  I find inspiration from the land and personal experiences.  Through texture, layers and colours I strive to incorporate an intuitive process with my materials.

Combining traditional teachings from my grandparents with contemporary materials I enjoy the process of collecting and  making the materials for my work.  Willow has been a prominate part of my materials for many years, first started making paper from the bark, as I learned more about the usage of willow it has broadened my use to include large willow structures, and bark weaving.

Jackie Olson continued her ongoing conversations with Kʼàyʼ / Willow for Plant Encounters.
